Fifthly: The title of the work as it appears in the commentaries:
1 – Sharḥ Nukhbat al-Fikar fī Muṣṭalaḥāt Ahl al-Athar (1).
2 – Sharḥ Nukhbat al-Fikar fī Muṣṭalaḥ Ahl al-Athar (2).
3 – Sharḥ al-Nukhba fī ʿUlūm al-Ḥadīth (3).
I have therefore elected to name the book Nuzhat al-Naẓar fī Tawḍīḥ Nukhbat al-Fikar fī Muṣṭalaḥ Ahl al-Athar. The fact that this title appears in three reliable manuscript copies suggests that it originates with the author himself, and it is quite likely that he—may Allah have mercy on him—devised it. Moreover, this is the designation cited by most biographical works and the one by which the treatise became well known in later times.
(1) Al-Qari (may Allah have mercy on him), Sharh Sharh al-Nukhbah, p. 117: “Some of my companions—and one who is among my dear friends—asked me to read with him the Sharh Nukhbat al-Fikar fi Mustalah Ahl al-Athar.”
(2) Al-Laqani (may Allah have mercy on him), Qadaʾ al-Watar, p. 2: “Indeed, the Sharh Nukhbat al-Fikar fi Mustalah Ahl al-Athar …”.
(3) Al-Manawi (may Allah have mercy on him), al-Yawaqit wa-l-Durar, 1:114: “I have been asked time and again to compose a commentary on the commentary to al-Nukhbah in hadith studies.”
خامساً: اسم الكتاب كما ورد في الشُّروحات:
١ - «شرح نخبة الفكر في مصطلحات أهل الأثر» (١).
٢ - «شرح نخبة الفكر في مصطلح أهل الأثر» (٢).
٣ - «شرح النُّخبة في علوم الحديث» (٣).
وقد اعتمدتُ تسمية الكتاب بـ «نزهة النَّظَرِ في توضيح نخبة الفِكَرِ في مصطلح أهلِ الأثرِ»، وذلك لأنَّ وُرودَ هذا الاسم في ثلاثِ نسخٍ من نُسَخِه الخطِّيَّة الجيّدة يُشعِر بأنَّ له أصلاً عن مؤلِّفه، ولا يَبعُدُ أن يكون من صنيعِه ﵀، وهو الاسمُ الذي تتابعت أكثرُ كتب التَّراجم على ذِكرِه، واشتهر به في الأزمان المتأخِّرة.
(١) قال القارِي ﵀ في شرح شرح النُّخبة (ص ١١٧): «إنَّ بعض أصحابي ومَنْ هو من جُمْلَة أحبابي طلب منِّي أن يقرأ عليَّ (شرح نخبة الفكر في مصطلحات أهل الأثر)».
(٢) قال اللَّقَانِيُّ ﵀ في قَضَاء الوَطَر (ص ٢): «إنَّ شرح نخبة الفكر في مصطلح أهل الأثر … ».
(٣) قال المُنَاويُّ ﵀ في اليَواقِيت والدُّرَر (١/ ١١٤): «قد كنت سُئلتُ مراراً وتكراراً في وضع شرحٍ على شرحِ النُّخبة في علوم الحديث».
