Depending on how far each writer chooses to range over the subject and its off-shoots—and the most expansive of them is Shaykh al-Tuwajjirī, may Allah guide him—he has inaugurated for them an unfortunate precedent: he stuffed his book with every feeble report he could lay hands on, imagining that they bolster his case, quite unaware that they in fact blunt his “sharp sword,” causing it to swerve and grow dull, unable to accomplish what he had aimed for. Their tally has climbed to nearly fifty narrations traced back to the Prophet—if not more—comprising weak, disclaimed, and fabricated material.
It will therefore benefit the reader if I cite a few samples, so that they may first be familiar with them and, second, appreciate the true measure of the Shaykh’s learning and of all who tread his path. I shall forgo commenting here on their chains of transmission, contenting myself with referring the reader to my book in which I have set them forth and examined them in detail.
