Al-Radd al-MufhimNasir al-Din al-Albani
  1. Nubhān is an unknown narrator (majhūl al-ʿayn), as indicated by al-Bayhaqī and Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr. Al-Ḥāfiẓ’s note in Taqrīb that he is “maqbūl” (1) conveys the same point, for in this context the term means that he is in fact not acceptable unless corroborated.
(1) In Ahkam al-Nisaʾ (p. 13) al-ʿAdawi attributes this view to al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar in Fath al-Bari, but this is most likely a slip of the pen or a typographical error. Ibn Hajar neither sought in Fath al-Bari to bolster the isnad nor to answer the objection, nor did he address the report transmitted by Muhammad ibn ʿAbd al-Rahman from Nabhan. In any case, he categorically declared this hadith weak. [63]
