Eighth example—on the authority of Anas:
(Sound) – “On the Day of Ḥunayn, Umm Sulaym took a dagger and kept it with her. Abū Ṭalḥah noticed and said, ‘Messenger of Allah, this is Umm Sulaym—she has a dagger!’ The Messenger of Allah asked her, ‘What is this dagger for?’ She replied, ‘I have taken it so that if any of the idolaters comes near me I shall rip open his belly with it.’ At this the Messenger of Allah ﷺ began to laugh… (the report continues).”
It was recorded by Muslim (5/196); Aḥmad (3/112, 190, 198, 286); Ibn Saʿd (8/425); and al-Ṭabarānī (25/119–120). Aḥmad also transmits it through another chain (3/108–109, 279).
In another version related by Aḥmad and al-Ṭabarānī (25/123–124):
(Sound) – “He used to go on campaign accompanied by Umm Sulaym and some women from the Anṣār; when he set out they would give the men water and treat the wounded.”
Al-Tirmidhī and Ibn Ḥibbān declared this narration sound, and it is cited in Ṣaḥīḥ Abī Dāwūd (2284).
Ninth example—on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās:
(Sound) – “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to go on campaign taking women with him; they would treat the wounded and would be given a share of the spoils.”
Recorded by Muslim and others; al-Tirmidhī graded it sound. It is also cited in Irwāʾ (5/69/1236) and Ṣaḥīḥ Abī Dāwūd (2438, 2439).
