10 – al-Qāḍī ʿIyāḍ (d. 544 AH): The scholars have said that a woman is not obliged to cover her face while walking along the road; rather, doing so is a recommended sunnah for her. A man, however, must lower his gaze from her in every circumstance. ⦗27, 40⦘
