the knowledge that Allah has commanded be made plain and has forbidden to be concealed—especially after those shaykhs hid it from the people and overturned the juristic facts, provoking other hard-liners to push back. One of these zealots even composed a tract he entitled “Reminding the Companions of the Prohibition of the Niqab.” He is off in one valley and they are off in another, while the truth lies between them, as I noted in the introduction to the second edition of Hijab.
