or black, and she may replace them with others whenever she wishes.
[It is recommended for her to recite the talbiyah after assuming iḥrām only loud enough for herself to hear]
8 – Once she has entered iḥrām it is sunnah for her to recite the talbiyah in a voice audible to herself alone. Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr said: “The scholars unanimously agree that the sunnah for a woman is not to raise her voice; she need only hear herself. Her raising the voice was disliked for fear of temptation. For the same reason the adhān and iqāmah are not prescribed for women, and the legislated way for her to alert others during prayer is clapping, not saying ‘subḥān Allāh.’” End quote from al-Mughnī ⦗2/330–331⦘.
[During ṭawāf she must observe full modesty]
9 – While performing ṭawāf she must be fully covered, keep her voice low, lower her gaze, and avoid mixing or jostling with men, especially at the Black Stone or the Yemeni Corner. Circumambulating in the outer part of the mataf without crowding is better for her than drawing nearer to the Kaʿbah while pushing through the crowd, for crowding is forbidden because of the fitnah it entails. Drawing close to the Kaʿbah and kissing the Black Stone are both sunnah only when they can be done with ease; she must not commit anything prohibited to obtain a sunnah. In such a situation it ceases to be sunnah for her; rather, the sunnah for her is merely to point to it when she is in line with it.
Imām al-Nawawī said in al-Majmūʿ ⦗8/37⦘: “Our scholars said: It is not recommended for women to kiss the Black Stone or to touch it unless the mataf is empty at night or another time, because that would harm them and others.” End quote.
He also said in al-Mughnī ⦗3/331⦘: “It is recommended for a woman to perform ṭawāf at night;”
