Tanbihat ala Ahkam Takhtassu bil-MuminatSalih Al-Fawzan

(1) Yes, weeping is permissible provided it is free of niyāḥah (ritual wailing), any prohibited actions, and any objection to Allah’s decree and predestination. Tears are a mercy for the deceased and a softening of the heart, and, in any case, they cannot always be restrained. Therefore, weeping is allowed and may even at times be recommended. Allah’s help is sought.

(1) Surah al-Baqarah, verses 155–157.
