and killing a protected soul is forbidden by the Qur’an, the Sunnah, and the unanimous agreement of the scholars (1).
Imām Ibn al-Jawzī says in his book Ahkām al-Nisāʾ, pp. 108–109: “Because the very purpose of marriage is to seek offspring—and not every emission of fluid produces a child—once a fetus has begun to form the intended goal has been realized. To set out deliberately to abort it, therefore, runs counter to the wisdom intended. If this is done in the earliest stage of pregnancy, before the soul has been breathed into the fetus, it is a major sin, for the fetus is progressing toward perfection and moving toward completion; yet it is less sinful than aborting after the soul has been breathed in. Should she intentionally terminate a pregnancy after the soul has entered, it is like killing a believer. Allah, exalted be He, says: ‘And when the buried-alive girl is asked: for what sin was she killed?’ (At-Takwīr 8–9) (2).” End of quote.
So fear Allah, O Muslim woman, and do not commit this crime for any reason whatsoever. Do not be deceived by misleading propaganda and baseless customs that owe nothing to sound reason or true religion.
