those whose share of knowledge, intellect, and religious commitment is scant. By means of listening to whistling, clapping, and songs accompanied by forbidden instruments he ensnares the hearts of the ignorant and the misguided. Such music turns hearts away from the Qur’an and makes them devoted to sin and disobedience. It is the Qur’an of Satan, a thick veil screening one from the Most Merciful; it is an incantation for sodomy and fornication, and through it the licentious lover attains from the beloved the very height of his desires… He continues: “As for listening to it from a woman or a beardless youth, that is among the gravest of prohibitions and the most destructive to religion.” … He also says: “There is no doubt that every jealous, protective man keeps his family from listening to songs just as he keeps them from every cause of suspicion.” And he adds: “It is well known among people that when a woman proves difficult for a man, he strives to let her hear singing; then she becomes compliant. This is because a woman is extremely responsive to sounds, and when the sound is singing her response is stirred from two directions: the melody itself and its meaning. Now, if this ‘incantation’ is joined by the tambourine, the reed flute, and dancing with effeminate swaying and twisting, then—were it possible for a woman to conceive from mere singing—she would conceive from this sort of singing. By Allah, how many a free woman has been turned by music into a prostitute!” End quote.
So fear Allah, O Muslim woman, and beware this dangerous moral ailment: listening to songs that spread among Muslims through every imaginable medium and method, prompting many uninformed girls to seek them out at their sources and exchange them among themselves.
