and they went on to imitate the Magians and other unbelievers. Yet Allah had commanded them to obey His Messenger ﷺ, who said: “Let your beards grow,” “Give full length to the beards,” “Leave the beards alone,” “Leave the beards alone,” “Make the beards plentiful.” In defiance they turned to their beards and shaved them. He had ordered them to trim the moustaches, but they let them grow long—thus they reversed the command and disobeyed Allah openly, disfiguring what Allah had beautified in the noblest and fairest part of the children of Adam.
“Then, is one to whom the evil of his deed has been made attractive so that he sees it as good [like the one rightly guided]? Indeed, Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills.” (Fatir 35:8) (1)
O Allah, we seek refuge in You from the blindness of hearts, the rust of sins, the disgrace of this world, and the punishment of the Hereafter:
“Indeed, the worst of living creatures in the sight of Allah are the deaf and dumb who do not reason. Had Allah known any good in them, He would have made them hear; and even if He had made them hear, they would still have turned away in aversion.” (Al-Anfal 8:22-23) (2)
This is sufficient for anyone who possesses a heart or who listens attentively while present:
“Whoever Allah guides—he is the rightly guided; and whoever He leads astray—you will never find for him a protecting guide.” (Al-Kahf 18:17) (3)
And Allah knows best.
May Allah’s blessings and peace be upon Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
