16 – The travelers should appoint one of their number as a leader; this unites them, fosters agreement, and strengthens their ability to achieve their aim. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “When three people set out on a journey, let them appoint one of them as their leader.” (1)

17 – It is recommended that, when travelers camp at a site, they remain close to one another. Some of the Prophet’s Companions, when they stopped, would disperse among the ravines and valleys, so the Prophet ﷺ said, “Your scattering in these ravines and valleys—this is only from Satan.” (2) Thereafter they would keep so close together that, if a single cloth had been spread over them, it would have covered them all.

18 – It is recommended that, when a person halts at a place, whether during travel or otherwise,

١٦ - يؤمِّر المسافرون أحدَهم؛ ليكون أجمعَ لشملهم، وأدعى لاتفاقهم، وأقوى لتحصيل غرضهم، قال ﷺ: ((إذا خرج ثلاثة في سفر فليؤمِّروا أحدهم)) (١). ١٧ - يستحب إذا نزل المسافرون منزلاً أن ينضمّ بعضهم إلى بعض، فقد كان بعض أصحاب النبي ﷺ إذا نزلوا منزلاً تفرقوا في الشعاب والأودية، فقال ﷺ: ((إنما تفرقكم في هذه الشعاب والأودية إنما ذلكم من الشيطان)) (٢). فكانوا بعد ذلك ينضمُّ بعضُهم إلى بعض حتى لو بسط عليهم ثوب لوسعهم. ١٨ - يستحبّ إذا نزل منزلاً في السفر أو غيره من
