Salat al-Musafir - al-Safar wa Ahkamuhu fi Daw al-Kitab wa al-SunnahSa’id Ibn Wahf al-Qahtani

14 – It is recommended that he recite the travel supplication whenever he mounts his animal, boards his car, airplane, or any other means of transport. He should say: “Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest. ‘Glory be to the One who has subjected this to us; we could never have done it on our own, and surely to our Lord we shall return.’ (1) O Allah, we ask You on this journey for righteousness and God-consciousness and for deeds that please You. O Allah, make this journey easy for us and fold up its distance. O Allah, You are the Companion on the journey and the Guardian over the family. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the hardship of travel, the gloom of what one sees, and an ill return with respect to wealth or family…” When he comes back from his journey he repeats these words and adds: “We return repentant, devoted in worship, and praising our Lord.” (2)

15 – It is recommended that he not travel alone without companionship, for the Prophet ﷺ said: “If people knew what I know about being alone, no rider would travel at night by himself.” (3) He ﷺ also said: “One rider is a devil, two riders are two devils, but three constitute a company.” (4)
