He also said:
“Whatever good comes to you is from Allah, and whatever evil befalls you is from your own soul.” ⦗Q 4:79⦘
And He said:
“Indeed, those of you who turned away on the day the two armies met—it was only Satan who caused them to slip because of part of what they had earned, yet Allah has already pardoned them.” ⦗Q 3:155⦘
He further said:
“When a calamity struck you, although you had inflicted one twice as great, you exclaimed, ‘How is this?’ Say, ‘It is from your own selves.’” ⦗Q 3:165⦘
And He said:
“Or He may wreck them for what they have earned, though He pardons much.” ⦗Q 42:34⦘
He also said:
“If misfortune touches them because of what their own hands have sent ahead, man is indeed ever ungrateful.” ⦗Q 42:48⦘
The Exalted said:
“Allah would not punish them while you are among them, nor will He punish them as long as they seek forgiveness.” ⦗Q 8:33⦘
Moreover, the Almighty has informed us of the punishments He meted out in this world to the sinful nations—the people of Noah, ʿĀd, Thamūd, the people of Lot, the inhabitants of Midian, and Pharaoh’s folk—and He has likewise told us of what will befall them in the Hereafter. For that reason the believer from Pharaoh’s household said:
“My people, I fear for you a day like that of the confederates—like the fate of the people of Noah, ʿĀd, Thamūd, and those after them. Allah does not will injustice for His servants. My people, I fear for you the Day of the Call—the Day when you will turn and flee with no protector against Allah. Whoever Allah leads astray has no guide.” ⦗Q 40:30-33⦘
He, the Exalted, said:
“Such is the chastisement, and the chastisement of the Hereafter is even greater.” ⦗Q 68:33⦘
And He said:
“We shall punish them twice, then they will be returned to a tremendous punishment.” ⦗Q 9:101⦘
