Kitāb al-TawḥīdSalih Al-Fawzan

—should its perpetrator enter Hell—does not keep him there forever. Allah may even accept his repentance and keep him out of the Fire altogether.

  1. Major disbelief makes the blood and property of its perpetrator lawful to seize, while minor disbelief does not.

  2. Major disbelief requires total enmity between its perpetrator and the believers, so it is forbidden for the believers to love him or take him as an ally, even if he is their closest relative. Minor disbelief, however, does not bar alliance outright: the person is to be loved and supported in proportion to the faith he still possesses, and hated and opposed in proportion to the disobedience he displays.
