The second subdivision is the disbelief of refusal and haughty pride despite inward certainty. The proof is the Almighty’s words:
“When We said to the angels, ‘Prostrate yourselves before Adam,’ they all prostrated except Iblis; he refused and acted arrogantly, and thus became one of the disbelievers.” (al-Baqarah 2:34) -
The third subdivision is the disbelief of conjecture and baseless assumption. The proof is His saying:
“He entered his garden while wronging his own soul. He said, ‘I do not think this will ever perish; nor do I think the Hour will come. Even if I am returned to my Lord, I will surely find something better than this as a place of return.’ His companion said to him, while debating with him, ‘Do you disbelieve in the One who created you from dust, then from a drop of fluid, and then fashioned you into a man? As for me—He is Allah, my Lord—and I do not associate anyone with my Lord.’” (al-Kahf 18:35–38) -
The fourth subdivision is the disbelief of willful aversion. The proof is His saying:
“But those who disbelieve turn away from what they have been warned of.” (al-Aḥqāf 46:3)
