Islam itself, to splinter the ranks of the Muslims, and to plant hatred in the hearts of this ummah’s later generations toward the earliest ones—instead of modeling themselves on the righteous predecessors and acting upon His words: “And those who come after them say, ‘Our Lord, forgive us and our brothers who preceded us in faith. Do not place in our hearts any rancor toward those who believe. Our Lord, You are truly Compassionate, Merciful.’ ” (al-Hashr 10)
