Al-Nasāʾī, al-Ṭayālisī, and Aḥmad transmit the report through several chains from him, each version adding something to the other. The continuous wording is that of Aḥmad. The first additional phrase is present in all the recensions except those of al-Nasāʾī and al-Ṭayālisī, who omit the expression: “bi-ḥirābihim (with their spears).”
The second addition is reported by al-Nasāʾī and Aḥmad, while its sense is found in the two Shaykhs (al-Bukhārī and Muslim). The fourth addition belongs to the two Shaykhs; the fifth is exclusive to Aḥmad and its chain is sound according to the criteria of the Six canonical collections. The seventh addition is with the two Shaykhs, the ninth with Muslim, and the tenth with all of them save al-Ṭayālisī—yet the extra wording contained in that recension is found only in Muslim.
Aḥmad also records—in one of his versions—that she said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ proclaimed on that day, “Let the Jews know that there is latitude in our religion; I have been sent with a pure and easy monotheism.”
He narrated it through the route of ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī al-Zinād, from his father, who said: ʿUrwah told me that ʿĀʾishah said so.
ʿAbd al-Raḥmān’s ḥadiths are generally acceptable, but his memory is weak; hence Ibn ʿAdī remarked, “Some of what he reports is not corroborated.” For that reason I have withheld this particular addition, since he alone relates it among all those who transmit the ḥadith from ʿUrwah.
The Ḥāfiẓ attributed it to al-Sirāj through the route of Abū al-Zinād and left it without comment. If the chain indeed passes through his son from him, you already know its weakness; but if it comes by another route, the matter requires further examination. Allah knows best.
