2 – Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Anṣārī narrated to us; al-Ashʿath ibn ʿAbd al-Malik, from al-Ḥasan, from Abū Bakrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ascended the pulpit and said … (the rest of the report), and it contains the supplementary wording mentioned above. Abū Dāwūd and al-Tirmidhī both recorded it, and al-Tirmidhī remarked: “A ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ (fair and sound) ḥadīth.”
3 – Ḥammād ibn Zayd, from ʿAlī ibn Zayd, from al-Ḥasan, from Abū Bakrah, said: While the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was delivering the sermon, al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī approached, climbed up to him on the pulpit, whereupon the Prophet ﷺ embraced him, stroked his head, and said … (the remainder of the narration), which likewise carries the supplementary phrase. It was transmitted by Abū Dāwūd and Aḥmad.
ʿAlī ibn Zayd is Ibn Judʿān, and he is weak.
Al-Ḥākim reproduced the last two chains in his Mustadrak and offered no comment on them; of the two, the first possesses a sound chain of transmission.
Al-Ḥasan (may Allah be pleased with him) has two further accounts. One relates that he mounted the Prophet’s ﷺ back while the Prophet was in prostration; the Prophet prolonged the prostration for his sake, and when he was asked about it he said, “My son has taken me as a mount, and I disliked to hurry him until he had finished his need.” This report will likely appear under “Prostration,” Allah willing.
