In sum, there is no evidence to forbid a menstruating woman, or likewise a junub (one in a state of major ritual impurity), from entering the mosque. The default ruling is permissibility, and it is buttressed by the proofs already cited. Allah, exalted is He, is the One who grants success.
- Entering the mosque while carrying a weapon whose blade is not unsheathed
The Prophet ﷺ instructed a man who was distributing arrows in the mosque: “Do not pass through unless you hold them by their heads, so that you do not scratch a Muslim.”
This hadith is narrated from Jabir ibn ʿAbd Allah al-Ansari through two routes:
-
Al-Layth ibn Saʿd → Abu al-Zubayr → Jabir. This is the complete version. It was recorded by Muslim, Abu Dawud, al-Tahawi, and Ahmad through several chains from al-Layth.
-
Sufyan ibn ʿUyaynah → ʿAmr ibn Dinar → Jabir, in an abridged form that leaves out the mention of giving charity. It was also transmitted by al-Bukhari and Muslim, as well as al-Nasaʾi, al-Darimi, Ibn Majah, and Ahmad; the chain here is ternary.
Hammad ibn Zayd likewise followed ʿAmr with an additional wording. Both of the Two Shaykhs included this corroboration, though al-Bukhari’s version omits the phrase “so that.”
