The Prophet ﷺ said, “Hand me the khumrah from the mosque.” I replied, “I am menstruating,” and he said, “Your menstruation is not in your hand.”
Al-Haythamī comments: “Al-Ṭabarānī related it in al-Kabīr. In its chain is Abū Nuʿaym reporting from Ṣāliḥ ibn Rustum. If that Abū Nuʿaym is al-Faḍl ibn Dukayn, then every transmitter is reliable; but if he is Ḍirār ibn Ṣurrad, he is weak.”
As for the ḥadith recorded by Abū Dāwūd through the route of al-Aflāt ibn Khalīfah, he said: “Jasrah bint Dajājah narrated to me: I heard ʿĀʾishah say, ‘The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came when the front doors of his Companions’ houses opened directly onto the mosque and said, “Turn these houses away from the mosque.” The Prophet ﷺ then entered, and the people did nothing, hoping that a dispensation would be revealed for them. He later came out to them and said, “Turn these houses away from the mosque, for I do not make the mosque lawful for a menstruating woman or for one in a state of major ritual impurity.”’” (1)
This report is disputed and not sound because of its inconsistency and because it is uniquely transmitted by Jasrah bint Dajājah, who is not well-known. Aflāt related it from her in that form, and Maḥdūj al-Duhlī also narrated it from her, saying: “Umm Salamah informed me of it in an abbreviated wording:”
