Ibn Ḥibbān likewise recorded this ḥadith, as cited in Fatḥ al-Bārī.
Among the corroborating reports is one from ʿĀʾishah with the same purport. Aḥmad transmitted it, saying: “Al-Ḥakam narrated to us; ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī al-Rijāl narrated to us; my father, he said, used to relate it from his mother, from her.” ʿĀʾishah said:
“If he were to see the condition of women today, he would have forbidden them.”
This isnād is sound; all of its transmitters are reliable and are found in Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim except ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī al-Rijāl, who is trustworthy (ṣadūq) though he may err on occasion, as stated in Taqrīb al-Tahdhīb.
The mother of Abū al-Rijāl was ʿAmrah bint ʿAbd al-Raḥmān.
Yahyā ibn Saʿīd also narrated from her, restricting the report to ʿĀʾishah’s statement in the wording:
“Had the Messenger of Allah witnessed what women have introduced, he would certainly have barred them from the mosques, just as the women of the Children of Israel were barred.”
Mālik recorded it, and through his chain al-Bukhārī cited it as well; Abū Dāwūd, Muslim, and Aḥmad also related it through several routes from Yahyā.
There is another narration from Abū Hurayrah on this topic that states:
“Any woman who has applied incense should not attend the last night prayer with us.”
Muslim and Abū Dāwūd (1) recorded it through Busr ibn Saʿīd from him.
