Its chain of transmission is sound according to the standards of the Six canonical compilers.
The ḥadith also has corroborating reports:
-
Among them is the marfūʿ narration of Abū Hurayrah:
“Do not prevent the maidservants of Allah from the mosques of Allah; rather, let them go out without wearing perfume.”
It was recorded by Abū Dāwūd, al-Dāramī, and Aḥmad through the route of Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr → Abū Salamah → Abū Hurayrah. This isnād is ḥasan, and al-Mundhirī passed over it in silence in his Mukhtaṣar. Ibn Khuzaymah also transmitted it, as cited in Fatḥ al-Bārī, while al-ʿIrāqī attributed it to Muslim in Taqrīb al-Asānīd, but that attribution is mistaken. -
Another supporting report comes from Yazīd ibn Khālid al-Juhanī with the same wording. Aḥmad narrated it through ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Isḥāq → Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr ibn Hishām → Busr ibn Saʿīd → Yazīd ibn Khālid. Al-Haythamī says in al-Majmaʿ: “Aḥmad, al-Bazzār, and al-Ṭabarānī in al-Kabīr all related it, and its isnād is sound.” That is his judgment. The transmitters used by Aḥmad are the same transmitters found in Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim except for Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr ibn Hishām. Al-Khilāṣah notes concerning him: “He narrated from Bukayr ibn al-Ashajj, and Ibrāhīm ibn Saʿd narrated from him; Ibn Ḥibbān declared him reliable.” Taqrīb al-Tahdhīb rates him as “acceptable.”
