she was asked, “Why do you still go out when you know that ʿUmar dislikes it and is protective?” She replied, “And what prevents him from forbidding me?” The questioner said, “What restrains him is the statement of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ,”—and he quoted it.
4 – ʿAbd Allāh b. Yazīd al-Muqriʾ narrated: Saʿīd b. Abī Ayyūb told us; Kaʿb b. ʿAlqama told us, from Bilāl b. ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿUmar, from his father, in a report traced back to the Prophet with the wording: “Do not bar women from their share of the mosques when they ask your permission.” Bilāl exclaimed, “By Allah, we will most certainly bar them!” ʿAbd Allāh said to him, “I quote to you the words of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and you say, ‘We will bar them’?”
5 – Ḥabīb b. Abī Thābit also narrates from him, including the final addition, with the wording: “Do not prevent your women from the mosques, yet their homes are better for them.” It was recorded by Abū Dāwūd, al-Ḥākim, and Aḥmad through Yazīd b. Hārūn, who said, “al-ʿAwwām b. Ḥawshab informed me, and Ḥabīb related it.” Al-Ḥākim declared it “authentic according to the criteria of the two imams,” al-Dhahabī concurred, and Ibn Khuzaymah likewise graded it sound, as mentioned in Fatḥ al-Bārī. It was also judged authentic by al-Nawawī in al-Majmūʿ and by al-ʿIrāqī in Taqrīb al-Asānīd.
6 – ʿAmr b. Dīnār narrates from him: “Do not prevent women from coming to the mosques.” His son protested, “By Allah, we will certainly prevent them!” Ibn ʿUmar retorted, “I am relating to you from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and you say that?” Al-Tayālisī records it, stating: “Hishām al-Dastawāʾī narrated to us from ʿAmr….”
