The ḥadith is also transmitted from Ibn ʿUmar—may Allah be pleased with them both—through several chains:
1 – al-Zuhri, from Sālim b. ʿAbd Allāh, from Ibn ʿUmar.
Al-Bukhārī, Muslim, al-Dārimī, and Aḥmad all relate it through this route. The wording cited here is that of Muslim and Aḥmad; al-Bukhārī alone supplies the first additional clause, while Muslim further adds:
Bilāl b. ʿAbd Allāh said, “By Allah, we shall certainly prevent them!” ʿAbd Allāh then turned on him and cursed him with a harsh curse—I have never heard him swear at anyone so severely—and said, “I convey to you the words of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and you reply, ‘By Allah, we shall prevent them’?”
Aḥmad also records this version, omitting only the phrase “he cursed him …” etc. (1)
2 – Mujāhid transmits it from Ibn ʿUmar with a similar wording, which likewise contains the first additional clause.
It is recorded by al-Bukhārī, Muslim, Abū Dāwūd, and al-Tirmidhī.
