It is also reported from Abu Hurayrah d. 59 AH.
Aḥmad transmits it through the chain of Nāfiʿ ibn Sulaymān, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Mihrān, from him.
This isnād is sound. All of its transmitters are found in Muslim’s collection except Nāfiʿ ibn Sulaymān; Ibn Maʿīn declared him reliable, and Abū Ḥātim said, “truthful,” as noted in Taʿjīl. Al-Targhīb states, “It was narrated by Aḥmad and by al-Ṭabarānī in al-Awsat, and Aḥmad’s chain is acceptable.”
I add: the next ḥadith corroborates it. The Prophet ﷺ said, “Shall I not tell you of something by which Allah erases sins and raises ranks?” They replied, “Indeed, O Messenger of Allah!” He said, “Perfecting wuḍūʾ despite hardship, taking many steps to the mosques, and waiting for one prayer after another—that is ribāṭ, that is ribāṭ, that is ribāṭ.”
Muslim, Mālik, al-Nasāʾī, al-Tirmidhī, and Aḥmad all record it through al-ʿAlāʾ ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, from his father, from Abu Hurayrah as well.
Likewise his words: “One of you remains in prayer as long as he is waiting for it [nothing prevents him from returning to his family except the prayer], and the angels continue to pray for one of you while he is in the mosque—‘O Allah, forgive him, O Allah, have mercy on him [O Allah, accept his repentance]’ so long as he …”
