—Ismāʿīl, who narrated from his grandfather Yaḥyā, from Salamah ibn Kuhayl, from Ḥujayjah ibn ʿAdī, from ʿAlī, tracing it back to the Prophet with the same wording.
This isnād is weak; it is a continuous chain of weak transmitters—Ibrāhīm, Ismāʿīl, and Yaḥyā. Al-Haythamī limited his verdict of weakness to Ibrāhīm alone, and that is insufficient.
Seventh chain: Abū al-Jaʿd al-Ḍumrī.
Al-Ṭabarānī recorded it in both al-Kabīr and al-Awsaṭ, and its transmitters are the narrators cited in the two Ṣaḥīḥs. Al-Bazzār also reported it, as al-Haythamī notes in al-Majmaʿ.
I say: If this report is established, it qualifies al-Bukhārī’s statement in his biographical entry for Abū al-Jaʿd al-Ḍumrī: “I know of no hadith of his except this one”—meaning the narration that will appear under the chapter on Friday regarding the warning against neglecting the Friday prayer. It is remarkable that Ibn Ḥajar, in al-Iṣābah, endorsed al-Bukhārī here, whereas al-Khazarjī, in the same narrator’s entry in al-Khulāṣah, wrote: “He has four hadiths.”
Eighth chain: ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb.
Al-Bazzār transmitted it, and its transmitters are the narrators of the Ṣaḥīḥ, except that al-Bazzār remarked: “Ḥibbān ibn Hilāl erred in it.”
