You will see—God willing—in the forthcoming discussion the decisive weight of this additional clause in determining and preferring one of the two possible readings of the ḥadīth, and the scholarly dispute that arose over it, so keep this point in mind.

Third: ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ
Ibn Mājah recorded it (1/430) through the chain of Yazīd ibn Maryam—(the printed text wrongly repeats “Yazīd” through a typographical error)—from Qazʿah, from Abū Saʿīd and ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿAmr together, as a report traced back to the Prophet ﷺ.
Its isnād is sound; its narrators are those used by al-Bukhārī except for Muḥammad ibn Shuʿayb ibn Shābūr, and he is trustworthy.

Fourth: Abū Baṣrah al-Ghifārī
From him there are three routes:

1. Via ʿAbd al-Malik ibn ʿUmayr from ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn al-Ḥārith ibn Hishām al-Makhzūmī:
   Abū Baṣrah met Abū Hurayrah as the latter was coming along and asked, “Where have you come from?” He replied, “I have just come from Mount Ṭūr, where I performed prayer.” Abū Baṣrah said, “Had I met you earlier, you would not have gone, for I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, ‘Mounts are not to be readied…,’” and he cited the rest of the ḥadīth.
   Al-Ṭayālisī recorded it (nos. 1348 and 2506), and so did Aḥmad (6/7).
