and al-Tirmidhī (2/148)—who graded it sound—along with Ibn Mājah (1/430), Aḥmad (3/7, 34, 45, 77, 78), and al-Khaṭīb (11/194–195) all recorded it through several chains from him; al-Bayhaqī also cited it (2/452).
2 – Via Mujālid: “Abū al-Waddāk related it to me from him.” Aḥmad transmitted it (3/53), and its chain is sound (ḥasan).
3 – Via ʿAbd al-Malik ibn ʿUmayr, who said, “I asked ʿIkrimah, the client of Ziyād; he replied, ‘I heard Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī say…,’” and he mentioned it. Aḥmad recorded it (3/71). Its transmitters are trustworthy, the same scholars relied on by the Six, except for ʿIkrimah the client of Ziyād. I am not acquainted with him, and al-Ḥāfiẓ did not list him in Taʿjīl, even though the chain meets his criteria.
4 – Via Layth, from Shahr, who said, “We met Abū Saʿīd while we were heading for Mount Ṭūr, and he said, ‘I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: “Mounts should not be saddled for travel except…,”’” and the rest of the report follows. Aḥmad transmitted it (3/93). Its chain is hasan, and its transmitters are those accepted by the Six. Muslim, however, narrates from Layth—meaning Ibn Abī Sulaym—only when paired with another transmitter, and al-Bukhārī cites him solely in a suspended form. As for Shahr, al-Bukhārī did not include him in his Ṣaḥīḥ, though he does narrate from him in al-Adab al-Mufrad. Shahr is truthful but prone to sending incomplete transmissions and making mistakes, as noted in al-Taqrīb.
