(b) Next comes the Prophet’s Mosque, based on his statement: “A single prayer in this mosque of mine is better than one thousand prayers in any other mosque, except the Sacred Mosque—for it is superior.”
This ḥadith is transmitted from a number of Companions ﷺ:
(1) One of them is Abū Hurayrah, from whom it is reported through many chains:
-
Through Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Agharr—whose given name is Salmān—from Abū Hurayrah. Al-Bukhārī recorded it (3/51), as did Muslim (4/124), al-Nasāʾī (1/113; 2/34), al-Tirmidhī (2/147) who declared it authentic, al-Dārimī (1/330), Ibn Mājah (1/428), Mālik (1/201), al-Ṭaḥāwī (2/73), and Aḥmad (2/256, 386, 468, 473, 485) through various routes. Al-Khaṭīb also cited it in his History (14/145).
-
Through Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyab, from Abū Hurayrah. Muslim, al-Dārimī, Ibn Mājah, al-Ṭaḥāwī, and Aḥmad (2/239) all transmit it via al-Zuhrī on his authority, and al-Khaṭīb likewise relates it (9/222).
-
Through ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ibrāhīm ibn Qāriẓ, from Abū Hurayrah. It is related by Muslim, al-Nasāʾī, al-Ṭaḥāwī, and Aḥmad (2/251; 473) through several chains. Muslim and al-Nasāʾī add the wording: “For I am the last of the prophets, and my mosque is the last of the mosques.”
-
Through Muḥammad ibn Hilāl, from his father, from Abū Hurayrah. Al-Ṭaḥāwī and Aḥmad (2/499) preserved it through two routes.
