(1) Anas reported:
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ fixed the period of post-partum bleeding at forty days, unless she attains purity before that.” Maj (224); Dar (81) — transmitted by ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Muḥammad al-Muḥāribī from Salām ibn Salm, from Ḥumayd, from Anas. Al-Dāraqutnī said: “No one narrated it from Ḥumayd except this Salām, namely Salām al-Ṭawīl, and he is weak in ḥadith.” As for the claim made by the author of al-Zawāʾid that its chain is sound and its transmitters trustworthy, that is an error arising from insufficient investigation of the authorities who graded the report; see my annotation on al-Muḥallā (2/206). Ibn Ḥazm also cited it.
(2) ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿAmr related that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“A woman in post-partum bleeding waits forty nights; if she becomes pure before that, she is pure. If she exceeds forty, she takes the ruling of a woman with chronic bleeding: she bathes, prays, and if the blood continues to overcome her, she performs ablution for every prayer.” Dar (81); Mus (176) — through ʿAmr ibn al-Ḥuṣayn: narrated to us Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿAlāthah, from ʿAbdah ibn Abī Lubābah, from ʿAbd Allah ibn Babbāh, from him. Al-Dāraqutnī commented: “ʿAmr ibn al-Ḥuṣayn and Ibn ʿAlāthah are both weak and abandoned.”
(3) From Muʿādh ibn Jabal, traced back to the Prophet ﷺ:
“If seven days have passed for a woman in post-partum bleeding and she then sees purity, let her bathe and pray.” Dar (82) — narrated by ʿAbd al-Salām ibn Muḥammad al-Ḥimṣī, whose kunya is Sulaym: he said, ‘Baqiyyah ibn al-Walīd told us: ʿAlī ibn ʿAlī informed me, from al-Aswad, from ʿUbādah ibn Nasī, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Ghanm, from Muʿādh, with this wording.’ Sulaym added: “I later met ʿAlī ibn ʿAlī, from al-Aswad, from ʿUbādah…”
