“…whoever builds a mosque for Allah, whether small or large…,” and the remainder is identical.
Al-Mundhirī pointed out its weakness, for this ʿAbd al-Raḥmān is unknown, while Ziyād al-Namirī—Ziyād ibn ʿAbd Allāh—is weak, as stated in al-Taqrīb. Al-Shawkānī said, “It has other chains from Anas—one related by al-Ṭabarānī and another by Ibn ʿAdī—and both have been criticized.” I say: some of those chains may lend support to one another.
The third additional wording appears in a prophetic (marfūʿ) ḥadith of ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb: “Whoever builds a mosque for Allah in which the name of Allah, Exalted is He, is remembered, Allah will build for him a house in Paradise.” Ibn Mājah and Aḥmad recorded it through ʿUthmān ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Saraqah from ʿUmar, and its chain is sound; all its narrators are those used by the two Ṣaḥīḥs.
Ibn Ḥibbān likewise included it in his Ṣaḥīḥ, while al-Mizzī judged it defective because of an alleged break between this ʿUthmān and ʿUmar. Al-Ḥāfiẓ Ibn Ḥajar refuted him in al-Tahdhīb, noting that the objection rests on al-Wāqidī’s statement, which is mistaken, and that ʿUthmān explicitly affirmed hearing it from ʿUmar in the version transmitted by Ibn Jarīr al-Ṭabarī in Tahdhīb al-Āthār.
It is further corroborated by a marfūʿ ḥadith of ʿAmr ibn ʿAbasah with the same wording, except that it states: “so that Allah may be remembered therein.”
