Al-Targhīb likewise cites the report, and al-Tayālisī transmits it through Qays from al-Aʿmash as a companion-level (mawqūf) narration, whereas the prophetic (marfūʿ) version is the more reliable.
Al-Tayālisī and Aḥmad then recorded it on the authority of Jābir, from ʿAmmār, from Saʿīd ibn Jubayr, from Ibn ʿAbbās, traced back to the Prophet with wording identical to that of Abū Dharr, but with the additional phrase: “for its eggs.”
Jābir here is al-Juʿfī, and he is weak. Al-Bazzār also related the report.
The second extra wording appears in another marfūʿ ḥadith from Jābir: “Whoever builds a mosque for Allah, even if it is no larger than a sand-grouse’s nest or smaller, Allah will build for him a house in Paradise.”
Ibn Mājah recorded it through Ibrāhīm ibn Nashīṭ, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī Ḥusayn al-Nawfalī, from ʿAṭāʾ ibn Abī Rabāḥ, from Jābir. In al-Zawāʾid it is stated: “Its chain is sound and its transmitters are trustworthy.”
I remark: All of them are narrators employed by Muslim except Ibrāhīm ibn Nashīṭ, and he is reliable. Al-Munḏirī likewise said, “Its chain is sound,” and Ibn Khuzaymah included it in his Ṣaḥīḥ.
It is further corroborated by the ḥadith of Anas reported by al-Tirmidhī through Nūḥ ibn Qays, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, the client of Qays, from Ziyād al-Namirī, from him, with the wording:
