Al-Nasāʾī 1/241—who declared the report sound—also transmits it, as do Ibn Mājah 248, Maj 218, and Aḥmad 6/45, 101, 106, 110, 111, 114, 173, 179, 208, 214, 229, and 245 through several chains from ʿĀʾishah. The same meaning is related from Abū Hurayrah by Muslim, al-Nasāʾī, and Aḥmad 2/428; 6/214; from Umm Salamah by al-Nasāʾī and Aḥmad 6/331, 334; from Ibn ʿUmar by Aḥmad 2/70, 86; from Anas by al-Bazzār; and from Abū Bakrah by al-Ṭabarānī in al-Kabīr. See Majmaʿ al-Zawāʾid 1/283.
Ibn Ḥazm (2/184–187) likewise deemed this permissible, and he records the same opinion from al-Muzanī, Dāwūd, and others.
Sharing food with a menstruating woman is also lawful. ʿĀʾishah said, “I would drink while I was menstruating, then hand the vessel to the Prophet ﷺ, and he would place his mouth on the very spot where mine had been.” All the major compilers report this except al-Bukhārī and al-Tirmidhī; it is found as well in the Musnad 6/62, 64, 127, 192, 210, 214 and in al-Dārimī 1/246.
ʿAbd Allāh ibn Saʿd said, “I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about eating with a menstruating woman.” He replied, “Eat with her.” Related by al-Tirmidhī 1/240, Ibn Mājah 248, and Aḥmad 4/342; 5/293, through ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Mahdī—who said: Māʿwiyah ibn Ṣāliḥ told us, from al-ʿAlāʾ ibn al-Ḥārith, from Ḥarām ibn Muʿāwiyah, from him. Al-Tirmidhī judged it ḥasan, and that is indeed the case.
Al-Dārimī (1/249) also records it via Haytham ibn Ḥumayd—who said: al-Luʿlāʾ ibn al-Ḥārith narrated to us—with the wording: “Some members of my household are menstruating, yet, if Allah wills, we shall all dine together.”
