—the very one on which he and his family slept. Whenever he wished to perform the witr prayer, he would wake me, and I would pray witr.
This isnād is sound according to the criteria of the six canonical compilers.
He likewise transmitted it through the route of Yaḥyā from Hishām with similar wording, and once again through the same chain. Al-Bukhārī also recorded it from Yaḥyā in this form, while Muslim related it from Wakīʿ, from Hishām, omitting the mention of the mattress.
Al-Bukhārī further narrated it through al-Zuhri, who said, “ʿUrwah ibn al-Zubayr informed me…,” with a wording close to that reported by Ibn Numayr.
The report has additional routes from ʿĀʾishah that resemble Wakīʿ’s version from Hishām; these will be cited, God willing, in the forthcoming chapter on the sutrah.
Aḥmad also related—by the first chain—that ʿĀʾishah said: “The Prophet’s bedding was made of tanned leather and stuffed with palm fiber.” The same narration is found in Muslim and in al-Tirmidhī’s al-Shamāʾil through several chains from Hishām.
In another wording preserved by Aḥmad: “The Prophet’s bedding, on which he and his family slept, was of tanned leather stuffed with palm fiber.”
Al-Tirmidhī has yet another route for this report: he narrated it from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Maymūn, who said, “Jaʿfar ibn Muḥammad told us, from his father, from her.”
