It also has a second line of transmission from her, related by ʿAtāʾ ibn al-Sāʾib from Saʿīd ibn Jubayr from ʿĀʾishah, conveying the same content as the first. Al-Bayhaqī and Aḥmad recorded it, and its narrators are trustworthy, except that ʿAtāʾ experienced confusion in his later years.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ likewise said to ʿUthmān ibn Ṭalḥah: “If, when you entered the House, you noticed the two horns of the ram but I forgot to instruct you to cover them, then cover them now, for nothing that distracts the worshipper should remain inside the House.”
Abū Dāwūd, al-Ṭaḥāwī, and Aḥmad transmitted this report through Sufyān, who said: “Manṣūr told me, on the authority of his maternal uncle Masāfiʿ, from Ṣafiyyah bint Shaybah—the mother of Manṣūr—who said: A woman of Banū Sulaym, the midwife of most of the people in our household, informed me that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent for ʿUthmān ibn Ṭalḥah and said …” and he mentioned the remainder of the story.
This chain is sound; every narrator in it is reliable and they are all transmitters used by Muslim. Al-Ṭaḥāwī’s version, however, omits the link “from his uncle Masāfiʿ,” giving the ḥadīth simply as “from Manṣūr ibn Ṣafiyyah, from Ṣafiyyah bint Shaybah.”
Manṣūr’s brother, Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, also narrated the report from him, assigning part of it to the route “from Manṣūr, from his mother directly” and part of it to “from Manṣūr, from Masāfiʿ, from Manṣūr’s mother.”
Imām Aḥmad recorded it, saying: “ʿAlī ibn Isḥāq narrated to us; ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us; Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān narrated to us, from Manṣūr ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, from his mother …”
