whether the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray in the very garment in which he had marital relations. She answered, “Yes—provided it bore no impurity.”
It was recorded by Abū Dāwūd, al-Nasāʾī, Ibn Mājah, al-Bayhaqī, and Aḥmad through Yazīd ibn Abī Ḥabīb, from Suwayd ibn Qays, from Muʿāwiyah ibn Ḥudayj, from her.
This isnād is sound; every transmitter in it is reliable, and both Ibn Khuzaymah and Ibn Ḥibbān declared the report authentic, as noted in Fatḥ al-Bārī.
It was also transmitted by Muḥammad ibn Abī Sufyān on the authority of his sister Umm Ḥabībah with the wording: “I saw the Prophet ﷺ praying while both he and I were wrapped in a single garment—whatever might have been on it.”
Aḥmad brought it through the route of Muʿāwiyah ibn Ṣāliḥ, who said: Ḍumrah ibn Ḥabīb related it to us from him.
All of its narrators are trustworthy except Muḥammad ibn Abī Sufyān. Al-Ḥāfiẓ states in al-Taqrīb: “Acceptable (maqbūl); some say the correct name is ʿAnbasah ibn Abī Sufyān.”
I would add: al-Khazrajī affirms this in al-Khulāṣah. If that identification is correct, the chain is authentic, for ʿAnbasah ibn Abī Sufyān is reliable and is among Muslim’s authorities.
ʿĀʾishah also related: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ and I would sleep under a single cover while I was in menstruation. If any of my blood touched him, he would wash only the affected spot, not the whole garment, and he would pray in it; then he would return, and if again some of my blood…”
