He ﷺ also said:
“No woman removes her clothes in a house other than one of her mothers’ houses without thereby tearing away every veil that lay between her and the All-Merciful.” (Aḥmad, Ibn Ḥibbān)
In another wording: “in a house other than her husband’s.” (Abū Dāwūd, al-Tirmidhī, Majmaʿ, Ibn Mājah, Muslim, Ṭayālisī, Aḥmad)
19 – Tayammum (dry ablution)
Whoever cannot find water should perform tayammum, whether travelling or not. Allah, Exalted is He, says:
“O you who believe, do not approach the prayer while you are intoxicated until you know what you are saying, nor in a state of major impurity—unless you are passing through—until you have bathed. But if you are ill, or on a journey, or one of you comes from the privy, or you have been intimate with women, and you find no water, then seek clean earth and wipe over your faces and hands.” (al-Nisāʾ 4:43)
They were once travelling with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when he led the people in prayer. Afterwards he noticed a man standing apart and asked, “What kept you from praying?” The man replied, “I was in a state of major ritual impurity and had no water.” The Prophet said, “Use the clean earth; it will suffice you.” (Agreed upon)
The Prophet ﷺ even performed tayammum in Madinah merely in order to return someone’s greeting.
Tayammum may be made with whatever lies upon the surface of the earth, whether soil or something else, as the Prophet ﷺ once performed tayammum by striking a wall. This follows the general wording of his statement: “The whole earth has been made for me and for my community a place of prayer and a purifier.” This is the position of Abū Ḥanīfah, Mālik, and others, and it was the choice of Ibn Ḥazm (2/158–161).
With that tayammum a person may perform as many obligatory and supererogatory prayers as he wishes, so long as he does not find water—
