from Musa ibn Ibrahim ibn Abi Rabiʿah, who said: “I heard Salama ibn al-Akwaʿ say…,” and he cited the account.
Imam Ahmad also transmitted the report through Hammad ibn Khalid, and al-Nasaʾi through Qutaybah; both routes go back to ʿAttaf ibn Khalid with this same wording.
ʿAttaf is further corroborated. Abu Dawud, al-Tahawi, al-Hakim, and al-Bayhaqi all recorded it via ʿAbd al-ʿAziz ibn Muhammad al-Darawardi, who said, “Musa ibn Ibrahim narrated it to us,” employing the second formulation.
Ibn Khuzaymah and Ibn Hibban included it in their Sahih collections, as noted in Fath and Tadhhib.
Al-Shafiʿi likewise cited it in al-Umm through both lines of transmission, stating: “ʿAttaf ibn Khalid and ʿAbd al-ʿAziz ibn Muhammad al-Darawardi informed us from Musa with this report.”
As al-Nawawi observes in al-Majmuʿ, the chain is ḥasan, for two trustworthy transmitters relate it from Musa ibn Ibrahim. Ibn al-Madini judged him “average,” Ibn Hibban listed him among the reliable, and al-Hakim declared the narration “sahih,” a verdict with which al-Dhahabi agreed. Al-Bukhari, however, remarks in his Sahih: “There is some reservation about its isnad.”
