This chain is sound enough for corroboration and supporting narrations. Ibn Mardawayh also transmitted it through two routes from ʿImārah ibn Ghaziyyah, from Mūsā ibn Wardān, with an additional wording. ʿImārah ibn Ghaziyyah is “acceptable” according to al-Taqrīb, and this constitutes a strong follow-up for Ibn Luhayʿah, showing that he preserved the report; thus the isnād is good.
- From Ibn ʿAbbās, traced back to the Prophet:
“Ask Allah to grant me al-Wasīlah, for no servant ever asks it for me in this world without my being a witness or an intercessor for him on the Day of Resurrection.”
Al-Ṭabarānī recorded it in al-Awsat with the following chain: “Ahmad ibn ʿAlī al-Abbār informed us; al-Walīd ibn ʿAbd al-Malik al-Ḥarrānī narrated to us; Mūsā ibn Aʿyan narrated to us from Abū Dhīʾb, from Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr ibn ʿAṭāʾ, from him.”
This isnād is good, if Allah wills. Al-Dāraqutnī declared Ahmad ibn ʿAlī al-Abbār reliable, and al-Khaṭīb said: “He was trustworthy, a precise memoriser, of sound doctrine; he died in 290 AH,” and he gave him a biography in his History.
All the remaining transmitters in the chain are those utilized by the Two Shaykhs, except for al-Walīd ibn ʿAbd al-Malik al-Ḥarrānī. Al-Haythamī said: “Ibn Ḥibbān mentioned him in al-Thiqāt and said, ‘His ḥadith is upright when he narrates from reliable transmitters.’ I say: This report is one of his narrations from Mūsā ibn Aʿyan, and he is trustworthy.”
