- On the authority of Muʿāwiyah, traced back to the Prophet ﷺ:
“When you hear the muʾadhdhin proclaiming the call, then repeat what he says—or words to that effect.”
Al-Ṭaḥāwī records it through Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr al-Laythī, from his father, from his grandfather, who said: “We were in the presence of Muʿāwiyah when the muʾadhdhin made the call, whereupon Muʿāwiyah said, ‘I heard the Prophet ﷺ say…’ and he related the report.”
All the narrators are trustworthy except for this ʿAmr—namely ʿAmr ibn ʿAlqamah ibn Wāqis. Ibn Ḥibbān declared him reliable and judged his report sound, as cited in al-Khulāṣah, while al-Taqrīb describes him as “acceptable.”
Through this same route Aḥmad also transmits the tradition, but he presents it as an action of the Prophet ﷺ rather than a verbal statement. A similar wording occurs in the Ṣaḥīḥ through another chain, which will be mentioned shortly, if Allah wills.
- On the authority of Muʿādh ibn Anas al-Juhanī, attributed to the Prophet ﷺ:
“When you hear the caller giving the iqāmah for prayer, then say as he says.”
Aḥmad relates it via Ibn Luhayʿah, from Zabān, from Sahl ibn Muʿādh, from his father. This chain is acceptable for corroborative purposes. Al-Ṭabarānī also records it in al-Kabīr, as cited in al-Majmaʿ.
