reject it, for it is provision that Allah has brought to him.’
It was recorded by Ahmad (5/320–321): ‘Abd Allah ibn Yazid narrated to us; Saʿid ibn Abi Ayyub narrated to us; Abu al-Aswad reported from Bukayr ibn ʿAbd Allah ibn Bashr ibn Saʿid, from him.
Al-Mundhiri (2/16) declared this chain sound.
I add: all of its transmitters are those found in the Six Books.
Abu Yaʿla and al-Tabarani in al-Kabir also transmitted it, though they phrased it, “from his brother,” as noted in Majmaʿ al-Zawaʾid (3/100). Ibn Hibban included it in his Sahih, and al-Hakim said, “Its chain is authentic.”
- The second report is from Abu Hurayrah, traced back to the Prophet ﷺ:
“If something comes to a person without his asking, let him accept it, for it is provision that Allah has brought to him.”
Ahmad likewise recorded it (2/323, 490), and al-Tayalisi (325) with similar wording, through the route of Hammam: Qatadah narrated to us, from ʿAbd al-Malik, from him.
Its transmitters are also those of the Six Books, except for this ʿAbd al-Malik, whose precise identity I have not yet determined. Al-Haythami nevertheless counted him among the narrators of the Sahih collections, saying, “Ahmad narrated it, and its men are those of the Sahih.”
He is probably ʿAbd al-Malik ibn ʿUmayr or ʿAbd al-Malik ibn Abi Sulayman. Allah knows best. Al-Mundhiri said:
