(6) Abu Hurayrah reported:
Whenever the night was cold or rainy, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would order the muʾadhdhin to give the first call to prayer, and when he had finished he would announce, “The prayer is in the dwellings,” or, “Pray in your dwellings.”
This was transmitted by Abū Aḥmad ibn ʿAdī, as cited in Ṭarḥ al-Tathrīb fī Sharḥ al-Taqrīb ⦗1/319⦘ by al-Ḥāfiẓ al-ʿIrāqī, who offered no comment on the chain of transmission.
6 – It is part of the Sunnah that two adhāns be given for the dawn prayer: one after true dawn, like the other daily calls, and another a short time beforehand so that the sleeper may awaken, the night-vigilant worshipper may rest briefly and rise refreshed, and anyone intending to fast may take his pre-dawn meal.
There are ḥadīths on this point:
The first: from Ibn ʿUmar, and it reaches us through several routes.
(1) Through Ibn Shihāb, from Sālim ibn ʿAbd Allāh, from his father, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say,
“Bilāl gives the adhān during the night, so eat and drink until you hear the adhān of Ibn Umm Maktūm.”
It is related by Bukhārī ⦗2/79⦘, Muslim ⦗3/128-129⦘, al-Nasāʾī ⦗105⦘, al-Tirmidhī ⦗2/392⦘, al-Dārimī ⦗1/270⦘, al-Ṭaḥāwī ⦗1/82⦘, al-Ṭayālisī ⦗250⦘, and Aḥmad ⦗2/9⦘.
(2) Through ʿAbd Allāh ibn Dīnār, from him with the same wording.
It is recorded by Mālik ⦗1/95⦘, by his disciple Muḥammad ⦗176-177⦘, by Bukhārī ⦗2/81⦘, and likewise by al-Nasāʾī.
