I (the author) say: Two remarks need to be made.
First: His mention of “Khuzaymah” appears to be a scribal slip; the correct reading is “Hazm,” as we cited from al-Talkhīs and from al-Zarkashī.
Second: When he adds, “and Baqī b. Makhlad also transmitted it,” that expression suggests Baqī narrated it through the same route taken by al-Nasāʾī, while in fact he reported it via a different chain. Thus—-as al-Talkhīs (3/172) records—-he said:
“Yahyā b. ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd narrated to us; Abū Bakr b. ʿAyyāsh narrated to us; ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz b. Rufayʿ told me: I heard Abū Maḥdhūrah say, ‘I was a young boy and I gave the dawn adhān in front of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the day of Ḥunayn. When I reached “Come to success,” he said, “Add into it: Prayer is better than sleep.” ’ ”
I (the author) further note: al-Ṭaḥāwī (1/82) likewise brought the report through Khālid b. Yazīd, who said: “Abū Bakr b. ʿAyyāsh narrated to us,” with similar wording. This chain is sound.
The second hadith is from Ibn ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with them), who said:
“In the first call to prayer, after ‘Come to success,’ one would say: ‘Prayer is better than sleep, prayer is better than sleep.’ ”
Al-Ṭaḥāwī (1/82) transmitted it through Sufyān, from Muḥammad b. ʿAjlān, from Nāfiʿ, from Ibn ʿUmar with that wording. The isnād is ḥasan, as al-Ḥāfiẓ stated in al-Talkhīs (3/169), and he also attributed the same narration of Ibn ʿAjlān to al-Sarrāj, al-Ṭabarānī, and al-Bayhaqī.
