Abu Saʿid al-Khudri—may Allah be pleased with him—said:
“We were held back on the Day of the Trench until a portion of the night had elapsed, and Allah granted us relief. About this Allah, Exalted is He, states: ‘And Allah spared the believers the fighting; Allah is Ever-Powerful, Ever-Mighty’ (al-Ahzab 33:25). The Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—then summoned Bilal and ordered him to pronounce the iqama. He led the Zuhr prayer, performing it flawlessly just as he would at its appointed time; he then gave another iqama and prayed ʿAsr the same way, followed by a third iqama for Maghrib, which he likewise performed, and finally a fourth iqama for ʿIsha, which he also prayed in the same manner. All of this took place before the revelation concerning the Prayer of Fear: ‘If you are in fear, then [pray] on foot or mounted’ (al-Baqarah 2:239).”
It was narrated by N (107), cited from him by Ibn Ḥazm (3/124), Mi (358), al-Shafiʿi in al-Umm (1/75), al-Tahawi (190), al-Bayhaqi (1/402), al-Tayalisi (295), and Ḥam (3/25, 49, and 67–68) through several chains from Ibn Abi Dhiʾb-al-Maqburi-ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abi Saʿid al-Khudri-his father. The wording here is that of Ahmad.
This chain is sound according to the criteria of Muslim.
The report was also recorded by Ibn Khuzayma and Ibn Ḥibban in their Sahih collections. Ibn al-Shakan declared it authentic, as cited in al-Talkhis (3/149). Ibn Sayyid al-Nas remarked: “This is an excellent and rigorously sound chain,” as quoted in al-Nayl (2/26).
A corroborating narration from Ibn Masʿud is reported by N (102 and 107), T (1/337), Tya (44), Ḥam (1/375 and 423), al-Ṭabarani in al-Kabir, and al-Bayhaqi (2/219–220) through the chain of Abu al-Zubayr-Nafiʿ ibn Jubayr ibn Muṭʿim-Abu ʿUbayda b.
