I designated it by the siglum (zāʾ).
6 — The second Paris manuscript, no. (633), comprises (57 folios), with (12–17) lines per page. The manuscript is in good condition apart from traces of dampness or something similar on the first folio, as well as the obliteration or disappearance of the final words on the versos of folios (1–30), perhaps because of the binding or photography. The title folio bears the following: “The Book of Governance according to the Sharia, authored by the learned Imam...” On its left side is an ownership inscription, but it is illegible because the folio has deteriorated. At the end, after praising Allah and invoking blessings upon His Messenger, it reads: “Written on the twenty-second of Jumādā I in the year 876 AH of the Prophet’s Hijra—may the choicest blessings and peace be upon him. Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best Disposer of affairs.” Beneath it is a note concerning Heraclius’s question to Khosrow about how dominion may endure. I designated this manuscript by the siglum (bāʾ).
7 — The Leiden manuscript, no. (2342), comprises (43 folios), with (22–25) lines per page. Its title page bears the following: “The Book of Governance according to the Sharia for the Welfare of the Two Rulers (1) and the Subjects.” Beneath the title, in the same hand, is a note found only in this manuscript: “He penned them [sic]—may Allah have mercy on him—when the great emir Qays (2) al-Mansūrī requested it of him, and he acceded to his request. He wrote it in one night (3)—may Allah be pleased with him and make him well pleased. Amen...”
