Editions of the Book
The book has appeared in many editions, the most important of which are:
-
It was first published under the title Comprehensive Principles of Divine Governance and Prophetic Signs. It was printed in Bombay by al-Akhbār Press in 1306 AH/1889 CE as a lithographed edition of 76 pages (1).
-
Governance According to Islamic Law for the Reform of Ruler and Subjects, al-Khayriyya Press, 1322 AH, in 80 pages (2).
-
It was published as part of Ibn Taymiyya’s Majmū al-Fatāwā (“Collected Fatwas”), 28/244–397.
-
It was published in an edition prepared by Saūd ibn Khalaf al-Shammarī, in two volumes, in 1424 AH, comprising approximately 800 pages. It bears no publisher’s name because it was apparently printed at the editor’s expense. The editor of this edition did not rely on any manuscript source; rather, he used the text of Majmū al-Fatāwā and compared it with the editions available on the market—as he states in his introduction. He greatly inflated it by tracing the hadiths to their sources, to no worthwhile end.
-
The Dār al-Falāh edition (1990 CE).
-
The Dār al-Fikr al-Lubnānī edition, edited by Ibrāhīm Ramadan (1992 CE).
