In sum, he brought them the good of this world and the Hereafter in its entirety, and Allah left them in need of no one besides him. For this reason, Allah closed the register of prophethood with him and appointed no messenger after him, for through him the community had no need of anyone else. How, then, can it be imagined that his Sharia, which is both perfect and perfecting, needs governance from outside it, a spiritual reality from outside it, analogical reasoning from outside it, or something deemed rational from outside it?!
Whoever supposes this is like one who supposes that people need another messenger after him. The cause of all this is that those who suppose it have failed to grasp what he brought. Allah Most High says:
“Is it not enough for them that We have sent down to you the Book, which is recited to them? Surely in that is mercy and a reminder for people who believe.” [The Spider: 51]
And Allah Most High says:
“On the Day when We raise up in every community a witness against them from among themselves, We shall bring you as a witness against these. We have sent down to you the Book as an explanation of all things, and as guidance, mercy, and glad tidings for the Muslims.” [The Bee: 89]
And Allah Most High says:
“Surely this Quran guides to that which is most upright.” [The Night Journey: 9]
And Allah Most High says:
“(56) O mankind, there has come to you an admonition from your Lord, a healing for what is in the hearts, and guidance and mercy.” [Jonah: 57]
How could a Book heal what is in people’s hearts if, according to their false claim, it does not provide even one hundredth of what people need?
By Allah, how astonishing! What was the state of the Companions and the Followers before these systems were formulated and these opinions, analogies, and doctrines devised? Were they guided by the revealed texts, or was it otherwise until later generations came along who were more knowledgeable and better guided than they?! No one possessing even a trace of reason or shame would suppose such a thing. We seek refuge in Allah from being forsaken. But whoever is granted understanding of the Book and the hadiths of the Messenger—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—has no need, through them, of anything else, in proportion to what
