Al-Iḥtijāj bi-al-QadarIbn Taimiya

(Sound) The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, related in a divine narration (ḥadīth qudsī): “Allah, Exalted is He, said: ‘My servant continues to draw near to Me through supererogatory acts (nawāfil) until I love him. When I love him, I become his hearing with which he hears, his sight with which he sees, his hand with which he strikes, and his foot with which he walks. Through Me he hears, through Me he sees, through Me he strikes, and through Me he walks. Were he to ask Me, I would surely grant him; and were he to seek refuge in Me, I would surely protect him. Never have I hesitated in anything I intend to do as I hesitate in taking the soul of My believing servant: he detests death and I dislike causing him distress—yet death is inevitable for him.’” ⦗64⦘
