Imām Aḥmad also transmitted it, through Wakīʿ, from al-Aʿmash, with the same chain. In that wording he said:
“O people, there was no prophet before me except that it was incumbent upon him to direct his nation to whatever he knew would benefit them and to warn them against whatever he knew would harm them.”
He then narrated the remainder of the report in a similar fashion (1).
The same ḥadīth was likewise recorded by Muslim (2), Abū Dāwūd (3), al-Nasāʾī (4), and Ibn Mājah (5) through various chains from al-Aʿmash, with this wording.
Muslim also related it from al-Shaʿbī (6)—from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAbd Rabb al-Kaʿbah, from ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿAmr—on the authority of the Prophet ﷺ in a similar version (7).

(7) This marks the end of the eighth volume of the works of Ibn Kathir (may Allah have mercy on him). In manuscript A it reads: “End of the eighth volume in the author’s own hand—may Allah have mercy on him—followed, God willing, by the Book of Reports on the Arabs.” This volume was completed on the seventeenth of Shawwal in the year (??) AH in the protected city of Damascus by the poorest of Allah’s servants, most in need of His mercy, pardon, forgiveness, kindness, and generosity, Ismail al-Durai al-Shafii al-Ansari (may Allah forgive him and grant him a blessed seal), for his loved ones, his brothers, his teachers, and all Muslims. Prayer and peace be upon Muhammad, the best of creation, and upon his family and companions—a multitude of salutations until the Day of Judgment.
